The general form of the design is inspired by studies of the building heights and views of the surrounding area. The surrounding building heights drive the slopes and height of the building, while the views drive the circulation within. The form then became a way to organize the programmatic needs within the school.
The traditional library is small, secluded, quiet, and its main function is to circulate books. The modern library is a center for exchanging information through all mediums such as books, computers, internet, video, and social interac- tions. The design takes the needs of the modern library and spreads it out within its circulation—creating a core for exchanging information. This information core acts as a connective void, bringing together the other programs within the school.
